INEC De-registers 28 political parties

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) yesterday Thursday December 6th announced the De-registration of 28 political parties.

"In the exercise of the powers conferred on it by the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended), the Independent National Electoral Commission has today, Thursday, December 6, 2012, de-registered the following political parties:

1.  African Liberation Party (ALP) 

2.  Action Party of Nigeria (APN)

3.  African Political System (APS)

4.   Better Nigeria Progressive Party (BNPP)

5.  Congress for Democratic Change (CDC)

Why were these parties de-registered? INEC didn't say.

Imo State Governor: Rochas Okorocha Slashes Tution fees of Non-indigenes in state-owned tertiary institutions by 50 per cent.

The governor said his administration would pay the balance as an extension of its free education programme.

An Benin Magistrate Court Yesterday sentenced a 47-year-old man: Godwin Allu, to seven years imprisonment with hard labor for having sex with his daughter.

Accused pleaded guilty to the one count charge of having unlawful carnal knowledge of his 12-year-old daughter, Blessing, was said to have committed an offense punishable under Section 218 of the Criminal Code Cap. 48 Vol. II of the defunct Bendel State of Nigeria, 1976 as applicable in Edo State.

Sanusi in a paper he presented at the 2nd Annual Capital Market Committee Retreat in Warri, Delta State, had stressed the need to prune membership of the National Assembly as well as the number of states and local governments in the country, among others.

House of Representative: yesterday, threatened to issue a warrant of arrest against the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, over her refusal to honor invitations from its Committee on Pensions:

Members of the committee also want the Finance Minister to explain her role in the take-over of Police Pension Fund and non-payment of pensions to retired officers and men of the Nigerian Police Force.

       Chairman of the Committee on Pension, Ibrahim Kamba, read the decision of the committee after waiting for the minister for several hours without any apology for non-appearance.

There's an Aluu4 movie in the making and it's being produced by Simony Productions,the Idumota marketers that brought you Blackberry Babes.

The movie will be titled Aluu4. I kinda have my reservations about this movie...mostly because it's being produced by Idumota Marketers who only care about making money and not necessarily as a tribute to the memory of the young men who lost their lives on October 5th. And I'm almost sure no one from the production team contacted the family members of the murdered boys, or even visited the Omoikiri community in Aluu where these killings occurred...and they probably didn't interview anyone directly involved in the case, including the police, to get an insight to what really happened that Friday morning.

I currently live in the UK and I am married to the most loving guy that I can ever think of, trust me I have been around so I know the attribute of the word "most loving guy" though all is not perfect at the moment but the dilemma now is that I am stuck between my mother, myself, my husband and our four months old baby and I really think I have made a very serious mistake courtesy of mother and all her advice.
I have known my husband for close to 12 years and of which have been married now for 2yrs. Unknowingly to my husband I had a baby for my secondary school love just after I finish my SS3 exams in Nigeria, and with the help of my mother we were able hide this from everyone apart from my immediate family because my then boyfriend denied the pregnancy and my mother did not want word to get out the her most precious teenage child has become pregnant.To cut the long story short, I gave birth to my first baby girl in a very small town in one of my mothers numerous friend's village, and my mother flew me abroad shortly after, and my baby was given to an Orphanage home near Port Harcourt run by again one of my mother numerous friends.

Student Protesters Disrupt Examinations At The University Of Abuja

University of Abuja students in the federal capital territory went on a rampage to protest the non-accreditation of some of their courses. The protest, which commenced at 6:00 AM, was started by Engineering students. Many students soon joined in blocking the main gate of the school to protest harsh conditions of education and general mismanagement of the university by officials the students regard as incompetent and irresponsible.
Some students said the university is in poor condition as inhabitants of the girls hostel  lack of water supply which forces them to fetch water from the boys hostel. Student leaders of the protest said the school is also bedeviled with overpopulated classes, cancelled lectures, lack of library facilities and lecture halls as well as the refusal of the school authorities to allow for independent student union elections.

 The protests quickly spread as several students took to the street just as some of their colleagues began sitting for their first semester examinations, which ought to start on Monday.
