List Of Top Notable African Women You Should Know

9:04 AM Add Comment

There are always lists of professionals who embody leadership and excellence promoted in mainstream media, bringing prestige, pride and sometimes added scrutiny, especially when minorities are omitted or excluded for whatever reason.
Well, I was more than happy to read a recent list lauding 40 African women leaders on the continent and in the diaspora by The AWP Network, a Web platform and global movement that offers African entrepreneurs business resources, educational tools and community support.
“The AWP Network Power List” includes several leaders who have received global recognition from both mainstream and minority media outlets, but also includes a diverse list of other women who may be under the radar but exemplify excellence in leadership and advocacy. Each serves as inspiration and motivation for all power women on the come up.
Check out a few notables from the list, as detailed by The AWP Network, and be encouraged to push for your own global boss moves as power women on the rise:

Omobola Johnson (Nigeria) Early in the year, AWP Network founder, Mary Olushoga wrote an article asking if African Female Techpreneurs are Lagging Behind? and what should be done to ensure the inclusion and participation of girls in ICT. Honorable Omobola Johnson takes ‘person of the year’ because by the end of the year, she took action and used her very influential position to create programs and policies that will ensure that Nigerian girls become active participants in the ICT sector by launching the ‘SmartWomen Initiative’ and the ’1000 Girls in Training’ program. Photos: Iranian Women Enjoy 'Stealthy' Freedoms By Removing Their Hijabs In Facebook Group

8:27 AM Add Comment

Some Iranian women are posting photos of themselves without the hijab on a new Facebook page launched to share “stealthy” moments of freedom from the veil.
The page – which has accumulated more than 132,000 likes in just a fortnight – features Iranian women joyfully revelling without their headscarves.
It was set up by Masih Alinejad, an Iranian political journalist based in the UK, “My hair was like a hostage to the government. The government still has a lot of hostages.”
Wearing the hijab has been compulsory since the 1979 Revolution and the lack of it is punishable by fines, imprisonment or lashes.
Additionally, Facebook is banned in Iran, though as many as four million Iranians are believed to use it regularly. “No words to say. Just that freedom is wonderfully enjoyable, even a brief moment of it,” reads a caption to one of the photos uploaded. SEE MORE AFTER CUT>>>>>>

Why Nigeria's In Diaspora Won’t Return Home

3:50 AM Add Comment

There has been an enormous increase of U.S immigrants going back to their native countries to start up their own businesses. It is safe to say over the past decade the countries grouped in the BRICS have been fortunate to receive a brain-gain, as many of their best and brightest have seen their own countries as land of opportunities.
On one of my social media networks I spotted a comment that said “By the time Africans get featured in an article like this the gold rush will be over.” Of course you can easily interpret this statement in several ways but it spoke volumes about how Africans tend to always be last in everything.
The Political Climate: The political climate in Nigeria is one of the number top reasons why the Nigerian Diaspora refuse to go back to Nigeria. Despite a democratic society, the political system is still full of corruption and lack of transparency.

If we compare our political history to a developing country such as Malaysia you will see some similarity as both countries received independence two years apart from each other from British rule. Even in the 1960’s Nigeria was ahead of Malaysia economically wise and had vast more natural resources. If we compare both countries as of today, Malaysia has been able to pull ahead in terms of development. In Malaysia, a person can literally start a business in less of week versus Nigeria which is 30 plus days. Interestingly enough there is an increasing Nigerian base in Malaysia. In other countries hard work can actually turn into a successful business like Chris Aire who has created a jewelry empire or Kase Lawal a well known business man in the oil sector. In Nigeria there are many businesses thriving based off their own work, but as well just as many growing because of ties these companies have with the government. SEE MORE REASONS AFTER CUT>>>>>>>>

“Maroc Telecom has done pretty well with its own operations in sub-Saharan Africa, so Etisalat’s thinking seem to be that it should take advantage of Maroc Telecom’s demonstrable expertise in that region,” said Matthew Reed, an analyst at Dubai-based Informa Telecoms and Media. Atlantique Telecoms, which controls interest in Senegal, CAR, Gabon, Ivory Coast, Togo, Niger and Benin, has not performed so well, returning lean profit margins for the UAE-based Etisalat. Hybrid Helicopter Plane Is Battery Powered & Doesn't Need A Runway It Takes Off Vertically

4:27 AM 1 Comment

Powering down a runway in an aeroplane could be a thing of the past - for the rich and famous at least - if this concept for a personal aircraft takes off.
A team of engineers who specialise in the design of wind-energy turbines have designed a small electric aeroplane that can take off vertically.
Its lift off would be similar to a helicopter’s, but once airborne, the S2 aircraft’s 12 rotor blade motors fold up so it can glide along like a conventional plane. SEE MORE AFTER CUT>>>>>>
