World’s biggest bra put up for auction

The world's biggest bra is being auctioned for a breast cancer charity.Although, technically, the record-setting bra isn't even the largest cup available. How is that possible? Well, the bra, modeled on a 34B T-shirt bra, is actually a "mega 1,360B" that is nearly as big as two tennis courts and weighs as much as 1,800 traditional bras."Our aim in auctioning the bra is to build awareness and involvement in Wear It Pink Day as well as raise money for Breast Cancer Campaign in the process," said the director of Chillisauce.co.uk, Adrian Simpson, whose group is auctioning off the bra. The bra is being auctioned on eBay with a starting bid of £500 (U.S. $800.30)Along with the actual bra itself, the winning bidder will receive a copy of the Guinness World Records official certificate. The record-setting bra first made headlines in October 2011,when it was suspended from the ITV Tower in London, in conjunction with last year's Wear It Pink Day.

Globacom marks Adenuga’s birthday with $500m deal

Nigeria’s leading telecommunication outfit, Globacom has signed a $500 million deal with technical partner, ZTE. The deal was signed today at the Mike Adenuga Towers, Victoria Island, was described as very memorable as it coincides with the birthday of Mike Adenuga, chairman Globacom Nigeria Limited.

The deal follows the $750 million memorandum of understanding the company signed with Chinese company, Huawei on 25 April.

The technical deal with ZTE is expected to enhance and improve Globacom’s network quality and service. The deal is expected to be completed by September, four months from now.

Jameel Mohammed, Group Chief Operating Officer, said the deal signalled the commitment of the telecommunication outfit to its customers. “With this memorandum of understanding with ZTE, we reiterate our commitment to our customers. In the coming months, we will all experience better services and products from Globacom,” he said.

Mohammed explained that the deal is very significant to Globacom because it coincides with the birthday of the Chairman who turns 60 today. “Today is a very symbolic and memorable for all of us at Globacom. A stuntman died yesterday during a world record attempt as he tried to cross a river on a zip-wire attached only to his hair. Sailendra Nath Roy, 50, was half way through the stunt when his ponytail became stuck in the wheeler of the rope and he was left hanging in mid-air for about 25 minutes.

Amazing, they're sisters, they’re all four years old, but these three little girls are not triplets. The eldest, Cara, was just nine months old when she became a big sister to twins Laura and Jenna. Her mother, Tessa Singh, 40, had become pregnant again within 12 weeks of her birth, and the twins were born prematurely at 28 weeks. It means for three months of each year, the sisters are all the same age. Mrs Singh said: ‘People can’t believe it when I tell them all the girls are the same age, yet they aren’t triplets.

Boston Bomb suspect wakes up: He is conscious and answering FBI questions in writing after 'shooting himself through mouth on boat'

Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev woke up and is responding in writing to questions. The 19-year-old is responding sporadically in writing to questions from investigators regarding other cell members and other unexploded bombs, law enforcement officials said. Agents are quizzing Tsarnaev about whether he had any accomplices who helped him carry out his attacks.

The news comes as it is revealed Tsarnaev, who is badly wounded in the throat, meekly pulled up his shirt to show officers that he was not wearing a vest strapped with explosives on Friday night as he emerged from the boat he had been cowering in.

'At the end they were just making demands of him: Show your hands, lift your shirt. And eventually that's what he did,' Watertown Police Chief Edward Deveau said.Investigators are asking about other cell members and other unexploded bombs, the report said.

Previously officials said Tsarnaev was in no condition to be interrogated.
Tsarnaev, 19, is being treated at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, where he is listed in serious but stable condition, with wounds to the neck and throat area, according to sources.
The bombing killed three, including an eight-year-old boy, and wounded about 170. An MIT officer was allegedly killed by Tsarnaev and his brother Tamerlan and a Boston transit cop was badly wounded in a subsequent shootout. Tamerlan died during the shootout.
Dzhokhar was caught by the authorities on Friday night after an exchange of gunfire at the Boston suburb of Watertown.

Mobile Number Portability Launched Across Nigeria’s GSM Networks

Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has today launched Mobile Number Portability (MNP) across Nigeria’s GSM networks, enabling customers change their subscription to other mobile networks while retaining their mobile digits.

The MNP system makes it easy for telecom subscribers to migrate across networks in search of quality service without the fear of losing, thereby driving competition, improved services and reduced tariff.

NCC in its released guidelines for MNP, made migration free of charge for subscribers but insisted that subscribers could only change networks once every 90 days.

An MTN subscriber who pleaded anonymity, said: “The limit imposed on the frequency of migration defeats the purpose of the MNP.”

She explained that a subscriber that moves to a poorer network has no option of migrating back to the previous network for a long time, meaning the poorer network(s) also gets to keep customers for a long time.

According to report, all four GSM operators in Nigeria said they were prepared for the portability launch.

Babcock University increase school fees as from next session.

Well, they are not protesting in school or complaining to their school administration...they are protesting via the media. A few students from the school have sent me mails complaining about the exorbitant fees they are being made to pay to get an education. The university just released the school fees for the next session and some of the students feel its outrageous. See it below...

The students are scared to protest in their school because they could get suspended. Babcock is a Christian University and claims to be a non-profit organization, so students don't understand why they have to pay such huge amounts to school there. But here's my thing; complaining about the school fees of a private university is like complaining about the cost of a first class plane ticket. You have other options; business class, premium economy class, economy class.

Premier League TV Rights: Worth £3 Billion between 2013 and 2016

Securing its status as world football’s richest competition, the Premier League has finalized an astounding £3.018 billion deal for domestic TV rights for the three years starting from the 2013-14 campaign (i.e. seasons 2013-14, 2014-15, and 2015-16). This is a 70% increase (£1.25bn) on the current three-year contract. With 10 games played on each matchday and 38 matchdays throughout the season, the EPL represents 380 games every year, 154 of which will be shown on live television (i.e. 16 more than currently broadcast and >40% of all top-level matches). In a sales process that concluded earlier this week, the live TV matches were distributed according to the following model:

Manchester United, Real Madrid and Barcelona have been rated as the world’s richest football clubs by Forbes magazine. A study states that English Premier League champions, Manchester United, are worth £1.4bn, which puts them top of the list for the eighth year in a row. Real Madrid are ranked second, valued at £1.17bn, while Barcelona are third with an estimated value of £1.07bn.
“Manchester United’s global fan base of 330m helps make them the most valuable team in any sport,” said Forbes.com.
Bayern Munich and Arsenal make up the top five in the rankings, with Chelsea and Liverpool ranked seventh and eighth respectively.

Dangote To Build $8bn Oil Refinery in Nigeria

Another chapter will this year be opened in the downstream sector of the petroleum industry, when business mogul Alhaji Aliko Dangote kicks off his plan to establish a refinery in the country. The federal government had, in 2011, granted approval to 19 multinationals for the setting up of private refineries in the country, but none of them has come on stream due to the regulation of the price of fuel in the country.Though details of where the refinery will be sited and its capacity were yet to be made known, work on the refinery, which will cost $8 billion, will begin this year. At a breakfast meeting with some senior editors to mark his 57th birthday in Lagos, Alhaji Dangote said work will start on the refinery once his company secured the final approval from the federal government.

Nigeria's Power Generation drops by 1,074MW

The poor supply of electricity being witnessed across the country currently is as a result of a significant drop in power generation from a peak of 4,517 megawatts attained on December 21, 2012 to 3,443MW on Tuesday April 9th.

The drop in power generation, according to the Ministry of Power, was as a result of low gas supply to thermal power plants.

The power generation report provided by the Ministry of Power revealed that peak generation as of Saturday was 2,987.6 MW, while the peak demand forecast was 10,200MW. Energy generation was put at 68,953.24 megawatts hours, while the actual energy sent out was 67,360.24MWH

LAUTECH Students Goes Rampage As Three Undergraduates Are Killed

Students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, Oyo State, on Monday night and Tuesday went on the rampage, as three of their colleagues were reportedly killed by an alleged drunk okada rider. According to sources, the deceased; all female, were 200-level undergraduates of the department of Science Laboratory Technology (SLT). Two of the students were allegedly returning from where they went to get their laboratory coats from one of their lecturers when a taxi reportedly veered off its way to crush them. In the process, one of the girls, in a frantic bid to escape being hurt, jumped off the bike but unfortunately hit her head on the tarred road.

Abu Dardam stated that the group was rejecting the amnesty because they don’t recognize democracy as a form of government and that the group does not agree with the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, arguing that justice can only be found in the Holy Quran, that is Shariya system of government.                                      MAIDUGURI— Islamic sect, Boko Haram has said that the Shura Council, the highest decision-making organ of the sect led by Imam Abubakar Ibn Shekau, which has the power to decide whether the sect will accept the offer of amnesty being planned by the Federal Government is yet to take a decision on the offer even as another faction of the sect has publicly rejected the amnesty saying the group did not ask for it. The Federal Government last week set up a committee to look at the feasibility or otherwise of granting amnesty to the sect members in a bid to put an end to the spate of violence in the North.Spokesman of a faction of the sect, Abu Dardam, however, spoke on the Hausa service of the BBC that the group was rejecting the offer of amnesty by the government. The group also said that it will not accept the amnesty which the Governor Alhaji Kashim Shettima promised to offer them.

BREAKING NEWS: Over 100 People Killed in Tanker Explosion In Nigeria

A petrol tanker explosion that occurred early Friday on the ever busy Benin-Ore expressway in Nigeria has killed not less than 100 people, naijacelebritynew.blogspot.com gathered.

Most of those who lost their lives in the inferno, according to eyewitnesses, are passengers who were locked in when the explosion occurred and could not escape from their respective vehicles.

The incident happened around Ugbogwi village, a source on the ground said more than 40 passengers of a luxury bus that belong to a transport company, The Young Shall Grow Motors, were among the unfortunate persons that were burnt in the inferno.

The cause of the accident was said to be a collision between a tanker with registration number GA 71 XA belonging to Dangote and a Young Shall Grow luxury bus.

Federal Government set to scrap NECO, Cancels UTME

Federal Government has concluded arrangements to scrap the National Examination Council. Plans have also been concluded to cancel the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination being conducted by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board for applicants into the nation’s tertiary institutions.

JAMB will however not be scrapped.

The government’s decisions, which would be made public soon via a White Paper, are based on the recommendations of the Stephen Oronsaye-led Presidential Committee on the Rationalization and Restructuring of Federal Government Parastatals, Commissions and Agencies.

A government source said that upon receipt of the latest report, President Goodluck Jonathan has been meeting with Vice-President Namadi Sambo and a few top government officials to take final decisions on it.

It was in one of such meetings held on Tuesday that the final decision was taken.

Under the new arrangement, the source said in place of UTME, authorities of all tertiary institutions would now be at liberty to conduct their entrance examinations as they had been doing for post-UTME.

Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, has finally replaced Mr. Obafaiye Shem, the man who postulated the “my oga at the top” mantra, as commandant of Lagos State Command. He was replaced by Mr. Adesuyi Clement from Oyo State Command. The Commandant General of NSCDC, Dr. Olu Abolurin, who was in Lagos weekend over the alleged killing of two of his officers by some policemen, introduced the new Commandant to journalists. Before now, authorities of NSCDC has denied taken any disciplinary action against Mr. Shem over the said interview. Their reaction followed claims that Shem had been sacked on the orders of the Minister of Interior, who supervises the NSCDC.However, he did not give reasons for Obafaye’s removal but sources hinted that Adesuyi took over from the former Commandant Obafaye on Tuesday March 29. There is no industry where there is no s*xual harassment because if it did not happen to you, you will not have the gut to say ‘wow! I have come a long way’.
