SSS Confirms 21 Deaths In Abuja Attempted Jailbreak
Deputy Director of the State Security Service, Ms. Marilyn Ogar, on Sunday confirmed that 21 persons died during the exchange of gunfire that followed an attempted jailbreak at the Asokoro headquarters of the service in Abuja on Sunday. In her third statement on Sunday on the incident, Ogar did not give the identities of the casualties. She said 18 casualties were recorded, adding that two SSS operatives were injured.
She did not indicate whether 18 who died were inmates or not. She, however, said three detainees, who sustained gunshots injuries, later died. Ogar said, “Following our earlier releases, it has been established that 18 casualties were recorded, while two service personnel sustained serious injuries. Three other detainees who sustained gunshot injuries during the incident have also died.”
The SSS spokesperson said investigation was still ongoing to ascertain the immediate and remote causes of the incident.

History Of Boko Haram: Who is Boko Haram?
Members of the Boko Haram movement attacked a DSS detention facility close to the seat of power in Abuja recently. Who is Boko Haram? and how did they come to be? Nigeria has a long history of communal conflicts, many of which were only suppressed under military rule. Despite the heavy handed tactics of the dictators, some of these conflicts came to the fore, the best example being the Maitatsine conflict which was eventually wiped out in the early 1990s . A lot of these conflicts and the groups that aid them found more freedom after the return to civilian rule.
One of these groups is Jama’atu Ahlus-Sunnah Lidda’Awati Wal Jihad, which became the Boko Haram sect. This group started in and around Maiduguri in the early part of the last decade. Starting out as a radical group at the Ndimi Mosque in Maiduguri about 2002, they saw society, particularly the government of Mala Kachalla as irredeemably corrupt. CBN Introduces e-Referencing to Speed Account Opening Process
Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has introduced electronic referencing to quicken process of opening bank accounts.To open current accounts with banks, prospective bank customers are required to provide two referees. This referees must have current account with either that bank or any other bank. Where the references provided are customers of another bank, the bank will have to send the names of the reference to their banks for confirmation before completing the account opening process. This is usually done by sending the account opening forms to the banks to confirm if the references provided are indeed their customers. According to the CBN, “Besides high illiteracy level and low confidence in the Financial System, a major reason for this relatively small number of account holders in Nigeria is the inter-bank reference bottleneck which makes it difficult for new accounts to be opened speedily. French Had Just Came Across Debris Of Lost Malaysian Plane
A French satellite scanning the Indian Ocean for remnants of a missing jetliner found a possible plane debris field containing 122 objects, a top Malaysian official said Wednesday, calling it “the most credible lead that we have.”
Defense Minister Hishammuddin Hussein said the objects were more than 2,500 kilometers (1,550 miles) southwest of Australia, in the area where a desperate, multinational hunt has been going on since other satellites detected possible jet debris. Clouds obscured the latest satellite images, but dozens of objects could be seen in the gaps, ranging in length from one meter (yard) to 23 meters (25 yards). Hishammuddin said some of them “appeared to be bright, possibly indicating solid materials.”

Federal High Court Nullifies Collection Of Toll-Fee On Lekki-Ikoyi Bridge
Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi,has today nullified the collection of any toll or tariff on the Lekki-Ikoyi Bridge. Ruling on the suit, which was filed by human rights lawyer, Ebun Adegboruwa, presiding judge, Justice Saidu, J. held that the power of control over all navigable waterways in Nigeria resides in the Federal Government, and not any state government. He held that from all the documents made available to the court, the only justification for the toll fee on the bridge by Lagos State is the private partnership law.However, he noted that the law could not apply to the Lekki-Ikoyi Bridge since it was built with the money of the Lagos State Government, without the involvement of any private partnership.“Thus, since there is no law supporting the toll fee, it is illegal and should be stopped forthwith”, Justice Saidu said.

In this post-racial world, any white girl can introduce her black boyfriend to her parents and he’d be welcomed with open arms. In this same post-racial world, parents of white kids don’t even
notice and start to draw up a shortlist of “better” schools when they
notice that the percentage of black pupils at their kid’s school has
risen to 10 per cent.
Of course in such a world, no one ever suspects a black boy walking
through a “white” neighbourhood of being a threat, even if he is wearing
a hoodie. Meanwhile, police forces everywhere gave up on racial profiling ages
ago when they finally listened to black critics of racial profiling and

Nigerian Senate Confirms Emefiele As New CBN Governor
Nigerian Senate has now confirmed the appointment of Mr Godwin Emefiele as the new Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria. Emefiele was the Chief Executive Officer of Zenith Bank before his new appointment. Malaysia Minister Of Aviation: 122 Objects From Missing Plane Found
122 objects potentially from the missing Malaysian plane have been identified by satellite, the country’s acting transport minister has said. The images, taken on 23 March, showed objects up to 23m (75ft) in length, Hishammuddin Hussein said.
All aircraft taking part in Wednesday’s search have now left the area without identifying debris from the plane. Flight MH370 from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing disappeared on 8 March with 239 people on board. The objects were found in satellite images from a 400 sq km area around 2,557km (1588 miles) from Perth in Western Australia, Hishammuddin said.
He said that it was not possible to tell whether the potential objects were from the missing aircraft, but called them “another new lead that will help direct the search operation”. The images were supplied by French-based Airbus Defence and Space and were given to the Malaysian Remote Sensing Agency on 25 March, Hishammuddin said.

FRSC Insists It Has Statutory Power To Impose New Number Plates
Justice James Tsoho had ruled that it was unlawful for the FRSC to impose new number plates on Nigerians, where no existing law permitted it. Despite a Federal High Court judgment that the new number plates introduced by the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, is unconstitutional; the agency has insisted that it has statutory powers on the plates. In his landmark judgment on Wednesday, Justice James Tsoho said that it was unlawful for the commission to impose the new number plates on Nigerians, where no existing law permitted it. “The issue of redesigning new number plates by the respondent, is not covered under the provisions of any law in Nigeria,” said James Tsoho, the judge.
“The respondent (FRSC) cannot force Nigerians to acquire new plate numbers by impounding cars, without the backing of any legislation to that effect.

Missing Malaysia's Plane: US Black Box Locator Deployed
On Missing Malaysia plane black box, Malaysia's acting transport minister has said that US Navy deep-sea black box locator was on its way to Australia to help in the search for the missing Malaysia Airlines plane. "The American Towed Pinger Locater an instrument that can help find a black box - is currently en route to Perth and will arrive tomorrow," said Hishammuddin Hussein. Hishammuddin said the black box locator would be installed on an Australian navy support vessel, the Ocean Shield, that is expected to arrive in several days. It is not expected to reach the search area until April 5. There is a race against the clock to find any trace of the plane that could lead searchers to the black boxes, whose battery-powered "pinger" could stop sending signals within two more weeks.These batteries are designed to last at least a month.SEE MORE AFTER CUT>>>>
