During the sitting by the Senate Committee on Aviation which is probing the crisis in the Aviation industry, the Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria , Mr. George Uriesi, said the Lexus Limousine cars and Toyota Prado jeeps were in the custody of a bank.

Power firms: Federal Government Insists On November 1st 2013 For Handover

The much anticipated conclusion of the privatisation of the power sector is enveloped in uncertainty following conflicting signals emanating from key stakeholders on the scheduled handover of the successor companies of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria tomorrow (Friday). While the Federal Government is insisting that there is no going back on the handover date, the PHCN workers are gearing up for a nationwide strike to prevent the handover, claiming that their terminal entitlements have not been fully paid.

More Facts Emerges On Stella Oduah Nigeria's Aviation Minister Car Scandal

More canned worms were thrown open  on Wednesday in Abuja  during  the public hearing  by  the House of Representatives Committee on Aviation on the controversial N255m bulletproof cars purchased by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority.

But the woman at the centre of the scandal, Ms Stella Oduah, dared the committee   as she again reneged on her promise to honour an invitation earlier extended to her.

Her absence however  led to  a near  disagreement between the Committee Chairman, Mrs. Nkiruka Onyejeocha, and a member, Jerry Manwe.

CEO Main One Cable Company, Ms. Funke Opeke Says MainOne To Build $25m Data Centre in Lagos

An indigenous cable company, MainOne, has begun the building of a $25m Tier III + data centre in Lagos. The Chief Executive Officer, MainOne, Ms. Funke Opeke, who unveiled the plan for the new data centre at a ground breaking ceremony at the company’s Cable Landing Station in Lagos on Wednesday, said the facility would be the largest of its kind in West Africa at 1,500 square metres with a 600 rack capacity.

Opeke said, “We are delighted with this project because of the immense benefits it will provide our customers. Internet penetration has been a huge issue in Nigeria, especially to the hinterlands.

Steven Evans Resigns As Chief Executive Officer CEO, Of Etisalat

Steven Evans has resigned as the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian subsidiary of Emirates Telecommunications Corporation operating as Etisalat in the country.

Bloomberg reported on Wednesday that Evans resigned last month and returned home to the United Kingdom after leading the company for most of its five years in existence.

The Chief Commercial Officer, Matthew Willsher, was appointed as acting CEO in his place, the spokesperson for Etisalat Nigeria, Ms. Chineze Amanfo, was quoted as saying this by telephone on Wednesday.

Willsher did not immediately respond to an e-mailed request for comments and Evans’ Etisalat e-mail bounced back, according to Bloomberg.

Anti-Corrupt Protesters Want Stella Oduah Aviation Minister Jailed

Protesters, stormed the ICPC office around 10.15am, defied confrontation by armed policemen who shot thrice into the air and civil defence officers to gain entrance into the premises of the commission. Protesters on Wednesday stormed the Lagos Office of the Independent Corrupt Practice and Other Related Offences Commission, requesting that the embattled Minister of Aviation, Ms Stella Oduah, be tried and jailed if found guilty.

Chairman of the Coalition Against Corrupt Leaders, Mr. Debo Adediran, who spoke on behalf of the protesters, said that many lives had been lost due to corruption in the aviation sector.

He said, “The purchase of the bulletproof cars is outrageous. It is the ICPC that should deal with anything that has to do with official corruption. Their reaction has been that they have not got a petition to act and that  that is why investigation has not begun. Now we have submitted a petition, we want them to act.

Forbes Names Aliko Dangote As Africa’s Most Powerful Man

The President, Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, has been named the most powerful man in Africa and 64th in the world by the Forbes magazine.

Dangote, who Forbes says is by far Africa’s richest man with a net worth of $16.1bn as of March 2013, was ranked ahead of the likes of Fifa President, Sepp Blatter (69); Speaker, United States House of Representatives, John Boehner (66); and Founder, Mo Ibrahim Foundation, Mohammed Ibrahim (71).

The 56-year-old, Dangote, whose company is considered one of the most diversified on the list, is currently ranked 43 on the Forbes list of the world’s billionaires with his net worth over time said to be on the rise.

In August, the industrialist had announced plans by the Dangote Group to build a $9bn refinery and petrochemical complex in Nigeria, a move which is expected to help the group further diversify its current business model and increase his net worth.

World Bank Now Willing To Work With Nigeria On Infrastructure Development

Jide Kosoko Who Was Said To Be Assaulted And Beaten By Video Club Owners: Says I Was Never Beaten Up

BBM Downloads Touch 10 Million Mark On Android, IOS In It's First 24 Hours

In September, BlackBerry had paused the global rollout of its instant messaging service BBM on rival phones, blaming the delay on issues caused by an unreleased old version of BBM (BlackBerry Messenger). "When we saw almost one million people install an unreleased version of the Android version, another million use workarounds to download BBM onto their iPhones and another six million people pre-register to know when BBM became available for iPhone and Android, we knew we were on to something huge," he noted. The application has also seen 'overwhelmingly positive reviews' on Google Play and the App Store. BBM has earned 60,000 five-star reviews on Google Play from about 87,000 reviews, he added.
