The wireless and fibre-based broadband provider is in the initial stages of rolling out the 4G LTE services starting with Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt. The project will start in the next few weeks following company’s acquisition of the 4G business of Direct On PC and the issuance of technical upgrade contracts to a consortium of Huawei, IHS, Helios and others. The acquisition was financed by Union Bank and FCMB and sealed with the approval by Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC). This deal will allow much higher bandwidth and use of applications on mobile devices with reduced service cost to already existing SWIFT customers. As part of the deal, SWIFT will inherit all the wireless 4G infrastructure with the addition of the existing customers of Direct On PC from Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt whilst Direct On PC will continue with uninterrupted services to their customers.
