Premier League: Arsenal Deny Manchester City Top Spot

6:28 AM
On saturday Arsenal drew 1-1 at home against Manchester City in the final English Premier League game. While the result did very little to improve Arsenal’s fortunes, it denied City the chance of going top of the EPL standings since Chelsea lost earlier in the day. The Gunners had a shout for a penalty turned down after 11 minutes, with referee Mike Dean waving away appeals when Tomas Rosicky went down in the box under a challenge from Pablo Zabaleta. City soon took the lead afterwards through David Silva who was quickest to react when Edin Dzeko’s strike came back off the post, tapping in from close range to make it 1-0. Former Arsenal man Samir Nasri came close to doubling his side’s lead on the half-hour mark but his effort was well saved by Wojciech Sczcesny.
Having ended the first half behind, Arsenal made the perfect start to the second half courtesy of Mathieu Flamini who converted Lucas Podolski’s cross from the left; bringing the Gunners level with 53 minutes on the clock. SEE MORE AFTER CUT>>>>>

Both sides looked to find a winner late on, but the game petered out finishing 1-1 to the delight of Chelsea faithfuls who feared their team would be toppled from top spot.
Chelsea could still be shoved off top spot if Liverpool defeat Tottenham Hotspurs on Sunday.
