Authorities of the University of Ibadan and Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife have ordered the reopening of their institutions for academic activities.
While OAU directed that academic activities should start on Monday (today), UI said full academic activities would begin on January 4, 2014.
This was contained in separate statements by the Director, Directorate of Public Communication, UI, Mr. Olatunji Oladejo, and Public Relations Officer of OAU, Mr. Biodun Olarenwaju.
They said this was in line with the decision of their governing councils, to implement the directive of the Committee of Pro-Chancellors of Federal Universities and the National Universities Commission that universities should reopen for academic activities. SEE MORE AFTER CUT>>>>
The Federal Government had directed all universities in the country to reopen on December 4, before it was postponed to December 9 to enable lecturers to attend the burial ceremony of late Prof. Festus Iyayi, who died in a motor accident on his way to attend a congress of the Academic Staff Union of Universities in Kano.
